This request comes after two assassination attempts on the Republican candidate. Last month aides said Trump had been briefed by intelligence officials about alleged threats to kill him from Iran. A spokesman for the Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting presidential candidates, said Trump “receives the highest level of protection” but confirmed that his aides had asked for more. US President Joe Biden, speaking to reporters at the White House tonight, said he had instructed security agencies to protect Trump as if he were a sitting president.
