A tourist helicopter fell on the Hudson River in New York near Lower Manhattan on Thursday afternoon (10) and was submerged, which caused a major mobilization of emergency teams.
US President Donald Trump called the “horrible” accident in a publication on the Truth Social network, claiming that apparently all six people on board – the pilot, two adults and three children – had died.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that a Bell 206 helicopter fell and was submerged on the Hudson River, adding that the number of people on board was still unknown.
The FAA and the National Transport Security Council will investigate. The National Transport Security Council (NTSB in English) will lead the investigation.
The CBS reported that the helicopter flew over the governor’s island and then approached the statue of freedom.
One of the sources told Reuters that this was the helicopter’s third flight on Thursday.
The accident occurred in Rio near the Tribeca neighborhood.
