During a telephone conversation late Thursday night, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz and United States President Donald Trump discussed the war in Ukraine as well as commercial differences between the US and the European Union. According to Chancellor’s press release, President Trump congratulated the Chancellor for taking over his duties, and Mr Mertz, for his part, assured him that, 80 years after the end of World War II in Europe, the US remains a “necessary friend and partner of Germany”.
