United States President Donald Trump said he has not heard anything about requests to potentially forgive Derek Chauvin, former Mineápolis police officer convicted of federal crimes related to George Floyd’s death in 2020.
Asked by reporters at the Oval Hall this Friday (7) if he is considering forgiving Chauvin, Trump said, “No, I didn’t even hear about it.”
The comments come after conservative inflemer Ben Shapiro asked Trump to forgive Chauvin of his federal conviction. At the end of Tuesday’s episode of his video podcast “The Ben Shapiro Show”, Shapiro essentially argued-contrary to what a state jury concluded-that Chauvin was not responsible for Floyd’s death.
The segment of approximately three minutes, which Shapiro also posted in X, asks viewers to sign a petition asking Trump to consider federal forgiveness.
Elon Musk, the billionaire who helps lead Trump’s government efficiency initiatives, later republished the Shapiro segment, writing that it is “something to think about.”
