Trump doubles steel and aluminum duties imported into the US – signed the executive decree

US President Donald Trump signed Tuesday, an executive decree providing for the increase in duties in imported steel and aluminum from 25% to 50%, which will be valid within a few hours. These two branches, considered to be of strategic importance, are a priority for the Republican president, who seeks to protect them. The executive decree states that the new additional customs duties are in force today at 00:01 (local time; at 07:01 Greek time). “I have considered that it is necessary to increase customs duties on steel and aluminum in order to regulate imports (…) to ensure that they do not endanger national security,” he said in the text.
