Donald Trump fired US Federal Bank Governor Lisa Cook over charges of loan fraud in a new escalation of the US president’s attack on the independence of the central bank. In a letter uploaded to Social Truth, Trump writes: “According to the power provided by Article II of the United States Constitution and the law of the Federal Bank of 1913, as amended, you are removed from your position on the Board of Directors of the Federal Bank.” Cook’s departure will allow Trump to appoint a replacement, helping him exercise more control over the Fed policy.
