The Trump government has released thousands of records related to the murder of former US President John F. Kennedy (JFK).
Many of the JFK assassination files have already been released, including about 13,000 public documents during the Biden government. However, many of these documents contained editions.
Trump said on Monday (17) that “people have been waiting for decades” to see the 80,000 records related to Kennedy’s murder.
Shortly after taking office, he signed an executive order determining the public disclosure of thousands of archives related to Kennedy’s murders, Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.
Kennedy’s murder was attributed to a single shooter, Lee Harvey Oswald. The Department of Justice and other federal government agencies reaffirmed this conclusion. But research shows that many Americans believe that death was the result of a conspiracy.
Experts doubt that new information change the underlying facts of the case – that Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy from a window in a school book deposit while the presidential entourage passed by Dealey Plaza in Dallas.
“People who expect great things will almost certainly be disappointed,” said Larry Sabato, director of the Virginia University Center for Policies, author of a book on the murder.
He said some of the pages may simply be the dissemination of previously published material that had a few words written.
Trump also promised to release documents about the murders of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and Senator Robert Kennedy. The US president allowed more time to make a plan for these disclosures.
Trump’s Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., son of Robert Kennedy and John F. Kennedy’s nephew, said he believes the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was involved in the death of his uncle, an allegation that the agency described as unfounded.
Kennedy Jr. also said he believes his father was killed by several gunmen, a statement that contradicts official accounts.
One revelation that the documents could bring is that the CIA was more aware of Oswald than it had previously released.
Questions remained about what the CIA knew about Oswald’s visits to Mexico City six weeks before the murder. During the trip, Oswald visited the Soviet embassy.
“People have been waiting for this for decades,” said Trump. “It will be very interesting.”
