The United States Department of Internal Security said it has paused the processing of some Green Cards – authorizations for legal stay in the country – to do additional verification.
Green Card gives the holder important benefits, such as the possibility of living and working legally and permanently in the US. A department spokesman told the CNN That some requests for Green Card that will be paused are requested through the “status adjustment” process.
“To identify better fraud, [questões de] Public safety or national security issues, US citizenship and immigration service is temporarily pausing the completion of certain status adjustment requests while awaiting additional examinations and verifications, ”said the portforther’s spokesman.
According to the US citizenship and immigration service, status adjustment is a process used to request a green card by individuals who are legally and are eligible in certain categories, including foreign and family workers, as well as refugees and asylums.
The measure to pause the process is part of the US government campaign to contain migration to the country.
The spokesman for the internal security department indicated that this measure “is in line” with an executive order and presidential action that Trump issued on the first day of his second term.
THE CBS News reported the case firsthand.
