Trump ‘had the nuclear codes when he left the White House’ – What the indictment says

The indictment facing Mr Donald Trump about the classified documents he kept after leaving the White House, as he allegedly kept the codes for nucleareven though he was not president.

More specifically, the former president faces a total of 37 chargesincluding for “withholding information concerning national security” and “obstruction of justice”, according to the indictment released this evening.

The Republican former president, who took boxes of documents with him when he left the White House, is also charged with perjury and conspiring with an aide, Walt Nauta, to conceal documents sought by federal police.

Among the files illegally kept by Trump and he moved them to his mansion in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, were also classified documents with information about the defense capabilities of the US and foreign countries and “about (US) nuclear programs”. Their eventual leak “could endanger US national security,” prosecutors said.

One document dated December 2019 it was about her support provided by foreign countries to acts of terrorism, to the detriment of American interests. There were also various documents about the briefings that were taking place in the White House.

According to the indictment, Trump showed one person a Defense Department document described as an “attack plan” against another country. He reportedly showed a map of a military operation in 2021 and said “as president, I could declassify it (…) but it still remains classified.”
