Trump is formally charged with trying to rig elections

Former President of the United States, donald trumpwas formally charged with attempting to interfere with the outcome of the 2020 election, which led to the Capitol storming on January 6, 2021. Six co-conspirators were also charged, but the names have not yet been released.

A 45-page document was filed with the Federal Court containing five counts, four of them conspiracy: conspiracy to defraud the United States; conspiracy to obstruct official US government action; obstructing and attempting to obstruct an official procedure; and conspiracy against civil rights [votar e ter o voto validado].

The text argues that, even after losing the election, Trump was determined to remain in power in the United States. Trump is due to appear before the Washington Court next Thursday (3).

Special Counsel Jack Smith says in the indictment that Trump and co-conspirators allegedly pressured state and election officials to change their vote from Joe Iden to Trump. They would also have tried to recruit fake voters in states where Biden won, according to the document.

They would still have used the power of Justice to supply lies, pressured by the delay in the election certificate, in addition to exploiting the chaos of January 6, with the invasion of the Capitol, to reinforce lies about the election.

Jack Smith, who led the investigation into the case, said the former US president’s interference led to an unprecedented attack that was fueled by Trump’s lies. He added that he wanted a speedy trial, so that the evidence could be tested in court and judged by citizens.
