Federal police searched his apartment today (28/4) Rudolf Giuliani, of the former mayor of New York and personal lawyer of Donald Trump, as part of their investigations into his business dealings in Ukraine.
Giuliani’s lawyer, Bob Costello, confirmed that A search warrant was issued for his Manhattan apartment. Among the items seized were electronic devices, according to the New York Times, as reported by APE-MPE. Giuliani did not respond to a request for comment.
The Manhattan Federal Prosecutor’s Office investigates Giuliani’s dealings in Ukraine. Although the warrant does not automatically mean that the former mayor has committed a crime, it suggests that prosecutors persuaded a judge to approve it, hoping to find evidence.
“It means a lot to execute a search warrant against a lawyer”
“This is a thrilling moment in research,” said Jessica Levinson, a professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. “It means a lot to carry out a search warrant against a lawyer, because of the issues that arise from the privileged relationship between lawyer and client. “It is even more important to carry out a search warrant for a lawyer who worked for the former president.”
Giuliani, 76, began representing Trump in April 2018, as part of an investigation by Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
The autumn of 2019 was at the center of the so-called “Ukrainian scandal” that threatened the Trump presidency. It was then revealed that he was trying to persuade Kiev to provide aggravating information about Joe Biden. Two men who worked for him in Ukraine, Lev Parnas and Igor Froman, have been charged in New York with violating campaign finance laws.
