Trump names Tulsi Gabbard as pick for Director of National Intelligence

President-elect Donald Trump has named former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard as his pick for Director of National Intelligence.

As a former candidate for the Democratic Party presidential nomination, she has broad support in both parties – now she is a proud Republican! Tulsi will make us all proud!” he said in a statement.

Who is Tulsi Gabbard

Tulsi Gabbard, former four-term congresswoman, 2020 presidential candidate and New York Times bestselling author, is a veteran of three tours of duty in war zones in the Middle East and Africa. She has served in the Armed Forces for more than two decades, currently serving as a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserve, serving as battalion commander of the 1/354th Regiment in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In addition, he leads his non-profit organization, “We Must Protect”, made up of volunteers who lead and support essential projects to serve and protect the American population and the planet.

Tulsi began her political career as a member of the Hawaii State House of Representatives when she was 21 years old. After the September 11 attacks, she enlisted in the Army National Guard. In 2004, she gave up her re-election campaign and volunteered to be sent to Iraq with the 29th Brigade Combat Team, where she served in a medical unit.

After returning home in 2006, Tulsi worked in the United States Senate as a legislative assistant to the late Senator Danny Akaka, who was chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. She then volunteered for a second deployment to the Middle East, serving as a platoon leader.

Tulsi served in the US Congress for eight years and in 2020 ran for the Democratic nomination for president.

In October 2022, Tulsi announced that she was leaving the Democratic Party, becoming an independent. On August 26, 2024, Tulsi formally endorsed President Trump for a second term and then went on to serve as co-chair of his transition team.

On October 22, 2024, Lieutenant Colonel Tulsi Gabbard joined the Republican Party due to President Trump’s leadership.
