United States President Donald Trump praised his immigration policies as a remarkable achievement and one of the greatest “promises fulfilled” of his campaign during a speech on Tuesday (29) in Macomb County, Michigan, to mark his 100th day in office.
“And week after week, we are ending illegal immigration,” said Trump.
“You know, I won based, I think the main factor was illegal immigration, the border, the people who cross our border from around the world,” he added, crediting his electoral victory to his firm stance on immigration.
“And the worst of the worst are being sent to a meaningless prison in El Salvador,” said Trump, before displaying a video showing deported migrants being arrested in the Central American country.
To mark the date, the government began the week highlighting its aggressive efforts to repression, especially aiming at immigrants convicted of violent crimes.
On Monday (28), the White House lawn was full of dozens of large signs displaying photos of individuals who, according to the government, are illegally in the country.
In an action calculated to maximize the exposure in the media, the plates were positioned rightly behind where television correspondents often make their reports, ensuring that the images appear on journalistic coverage.
Since his first day in office, Trump has signed decrees to streamline deportations and reformulate US immigration policy, expanding the limits of presidential authority for his agenda.
