United States President Donald Trump called India’s military operation against Pakistan “a shame” and said he only learned of the news before his event at the Oval Hall on Tuesday (6).
“It’s a shame. We just knew this, as soon as we entered the Oval Hall, we just knew. I think people knew something would happen on a little bit of the past; they have been struggling for a long time, you know many, many decades and centuries,” said the president after the inauguration ceremony of his special envoy, Steve Witkoff.
“I just hope it ends very fast,” added the president.
The US State Department also said it is “closely monitoring events,” according to a spokesman on Tuesday.
“We are aware of the reports, but we have no assessment to offer right now,” said the spokesman. “This is still an evolving situation and we are closely monitoring events,” he added.
The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, talked to high employees from both countries last week, while tensions rapidly increased after an attack on India -controlled caxemira.
Rubio encouraged India and Pakistan to work together to “relieve tensions”, according to state department statements on the two telephone calls on April 30.
