United States President Donald Trump announced after a two-hour call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday that “Russia and Ukraine will immediately begin negotiations for a ceasefire and, most importantly, to the end of the war.”
“The conditions for this will be negotiated between the two parts, as it can only be, because they know details of a negotiation that no one else would be aware,” Trump said on the Social Truth, adding that “the tone and spirit of the conversation were excellent.”
“Russia wants to make a large -scale trade with the United States when this catastrophic ‘bloodbath is over, and I agree. There is a tremendous opportunity for Russia to create huge amounts of jobs and wealth. Its potential is unlimited,” Trump continued.
He also said that Ukraine “can be a great beneficiary in trade.”
Trump said he informed several country leaders about the content of the call, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
“The Vatican, represented by the Pope, stated that he would be very interested in hosting the negotiations. That the process starts!,” Added Trump.
Monday’s call with Putin marks the third time that the two leaders have been talking by telephone since Trump took office in January. And it occurs at a time when Trump is increasingly frustrated by the Russian President’s refusal to sign a peace agreement with Ukraine.
Trump told reporters who traveled with him to Abu Dhabi last week who believes that herself can advance in peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, who are paralyzed, suggesting that the Russian President did not attend peace negotiations in Turkey because Trump himself was not present.
Asked on Wednesday if he still believed that Putin was “supporting” him in peace negotiations, Trump replied, “Warning in a week, warning in a few days.”
Before the connection, White House Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Monday that Trump “is tired and frustrated with both sides of the conflict,” adding that her goal “is to see a ceasefire and see this conflict comes to an end.”
