Trump sanctions law and increases protection to revenge porn victims

United States President Donald Trump sanctioned a bill that increases the protection for revenge porn and sexual images generated by Artificial Intelligence (IA) during a ceremony at Rose Garden.

The president also encouraged the first lady, Melania Trump, who made a strong lobby for the project, to sanction him as well.

“This will be the first federal law to combat the distribution of explicit, imaginary images, posted without the consent of the subject, who take horrible photos and sometimes even invent the photos they post without consent or anything,” said Trump.

He joked that he is a frequent target of images manipulated by AI.

The law, called Take It Down, will increase the responsibility of technological platforms where AI -generated revenge and explicit images are shared and will provide police authorities clarity on how to process such activity. Previously, federal law prohibited the creation or sharing of explicit images of AI -generated children. But laws that protect adult victims vary from state to state and do not exist throughout the country.

The law also represents one of the first new US federal laws designed to address potential damage caused by AI -generated content as technology advances rapidly.

The president referred to the bill during his speech at a joint session of Congress in March, during which the first lady received the teenager victim Elliston Berry as one of her guests. Berry appeared to the Bill’s Bill in the White House Rose Garden today, along with Francesca Mani, another teenager who has fought for legal protections after being the target of this form of harassment.
