Trump says he had productive conversation with Canada Premier

United States President Donald Trump said he had a productive phone call on Friday (28) with Canada Prime Minister Mark Carney, and that the two leaders will meet after the Canadian general election, which will take place next month, amid increasing tensions among neighboring allies.

“It was an extremely productive connection, we agreed on many things and we will meet immediately after Canada’s next election to work on elements of politics, business and all other factors,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

This work “will end up being great for both the United States and Canada,” he added.

Carney and her cabinet have not yet disclosed information about the call, which happened a day after the new Canandense leader promised to transform Canada’s economy to be less dependent on the US.

On Thursday (27), Canada Prime Minister promised “retaliatory trade” to the United States in response to President Donald Trump’s latest tariffs on cars and imported pieces.

The US and Canada have been close allies and a long time ago. However, relationships deteriorated after Trump, who took office in January, broke the relationship with threats of tariffs and comments about the possibility of making Canada the 51st US state.

Carney, who took office in March, called an early general election to April 28.
