The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, said he will “evaluate” the ban on the TikTok app in the country. Trump said the social network has “a special place in his heart.”
In April, US President Joe Biden signed into law a bill that required TikTok, owned by Beijing-based ByteDance, to be sold to a non-Chinese company.
The project gave ByteDance 270 days to sell TikTok. If this does not happen, the social media application would be banned in US app stores and “internet hosting services”. TikTok challenged the measure, but without success.
When asked by a reporter this Monday (16) whether he would repeal the legislation, Trump commented that he believes the app helped him win the young vote in November’s US presidential elections.
“Let’s take a look at Tiktok. You know, I have a special place in my heart for TikTok because I won [os votos] youth by 34 points, and there are those who say that TikTok has something to do with that”, he declared.
The president-elect also said interviews with famous influencers like Joe Rogan also helped Republicans win more young votes. “But TikTok has had an impact, so we’re taking a look at that,” he highlighted.
