Trump says he may declare national emergency to comply with deportation plan

The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, confirmed in a publication in Truth Social this Monday (18) that he is prepared to declare a national emergency as part of his plan to deport immigrants on a large scale.

THE CNN reported over the weekend that Trump’s team is considering a national emergency declaration to unlock Pentagon resources and clear the way for expanded detention spaces.

In his first term, the Republican declared a national emergency on the border with Mexico to “bypass” Congress and use Pentagon funds to build a border wall — a move that faced multiple lawsuits.

The new government’s immigration plans are beginning to be worked on, sources previously told CNN including implementing strict border measures, overturning Biden policies, and beginning large-scale immigrant detention and deportation.

People close to the president-elect and his advisers are working to expand detention facilities so that the campaign promise of mass deportation can be fulfilled, including reviewing metropolitan areas where such facilities exist.

They are also preparing executive actions, which are a nod to Trump’s first term and could be implemented as soon as he takes office, the sources added.

When will Donald Trump be inaugurated as President of the United States?
