United States President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he sees Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky as “calmer” and more interested in reaching a peacekeeping agreement after the Vatican leaders meeting this weekend.
Trump called the “Linda” meeting and said Zelensky asked for more weapons during the 15 -minute session.
Trump stated that during his conversation in St. Peter’s Basilica with Zelensky, they briefly discussed the Crimea issue, which the US would recognize as Russian under an American peace proposal that the Ukrainian President rejected.
Trump denied that his relationship with Zelensky was bad, saying that the televised dispute between them in February was just a small obstacle.
“I see him calmer. I think he understands the scenario. And I think he wants to make a deal,” said Trump.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, he said, needed to be committed to the end of the war.
“I want him to stop shooting, feel and sign a deal,” said Trump. “I believe we have the limits of an agreement and I want him to sign, end it and go back to life,” he added.
