Trump says he will not be a dictator if he returns to the White House: “except on day 1”

In the United States, former President Donald Trump was asked whether he would abuse his power if re-elected, and replied that “except on the first day”. The statement was made during an interview with the American television channel FOX News.

Host Sean Hannity asks Trump: “Under no circumstances are you promising America tonight that you would never abuse power as revenge against anyone?”

The Republican quickly responds: “Except on the first day. I want to close the border and I want to drill, drill, drill.” The former president mentions the refugee crisis that is flooding the United States border with Mexico and the country’s domestic oil production.

“We are closing the border and drilling, drilling, drilling. After this, I am not a dictator,” Trump said.

Despite the statements, allies and members of Trump’s campaign say that, if elected, the Republican must use executive power like never before.

Trump’s plan includes having more White House control over the Justice Department, an institution the former president said he would use to exact revenge on his critics and former allies.

“I will appoint a real special prosecutor to pursue the most corrupt president in the history of the United States, Joe Biden, and his entire criminal family,” said the former president in June.

Trump said in a video in March of this year that he would sign an executive order that would allow him to “remove rogue bureaucrats.” He promised to “exercise this power very aggressively.”

Experts say a new Trump term would lead to years of legal battles and political clashes with Congress over the limits of presidential authority in the United States.

Biden vs Trump

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, said this Tuesday (05) that he could have avoided a re-election attempt if he had not faced Donald Trump, adding that the Republican represents a unique threat to the country.

“If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I would be running,” Biden said at a fundraiser for his 2024 campaign in Boston. “We can’t let him win,” said the American leader.
