United States President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he would sign a “very soon” agreement about rare land minerals with Ukraine.
“We are doing very well about Ukraine and Russia. And one of the things we are doing is significantly signing an agreement with the rare lands with Ukraine,” Trump said at the beginning of an event where he signed an executive order to begin the closing of the Department of Education.
The deal was what led Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House last month, but was never signed after a tense meeting at the Oval Hall between him and Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
Designing optimism about the end of the war, Trump made reference to recent telephone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelensky.
“We talked yesterday with, as you know, President Putin and President Zelensky, and we would love to see it comes to an end, and I think we’re doing very well about it,” he said.
Trump spoke to Putin on Tuesday (18) and Zelensky on Wednesday (19).
At a press conference on Wednesday, White House Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the White House had “gone beyond the economic agreement of minerals.”
“We are in a place of peace. We are in a partial ceasefire and we are moving towards a total ceasefire and lasting peace in this conflict,” Leavitt continued.
Later, asked what he meant to go further, Leavitt said: “It means that the mineral agreement was the first set of structures you all saw at that public meeting with President Zelensky and President Trump in the Oval Hall. Now we are focused on a long -term peace agreement.”
Rare lands are important in the manufacture of high performance magnets, electric motors and consumer electronics. Understand better what minerals are and why Trump is interested in them in this matter.
