Trump says he wishes Biden hadn’t called after attack so he wouldn’t have to praise rivals

Former President Donald Trump recounted his conversations with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris following the apparent assassination attempt on him on Sunday (15), repeatedly saying both Democrats were “kind” to him.

“I have to say that President Biden called me yesterday,” he said at an event in Michigan on Tuesday (17), calling the conversation “very pleasant.” Trump said he “appreciated” Biden’s call about “what happened the other day.”

Trump also mentioned his call earlier Tuesday with Kamala, saying he “got a very nice call from Kamala. It was very nice.” Still, while repeating that he appreciated the calls, he told the audience that “we have to take back our country. We have to win. We’re going to win, and we’re going to make America great again.”

While Trump said his conversation with the vice president was pleasant, the crowd in Flint, Michigan, booed, with some people shouting “liar.”

Later, when answering a question about the auto industry and criticizing the Biden administration, Trump said he wanted to “be nice” because Biden “was so nice to me yesterday,” but noted that he wished the call had not happened so he wouldn’t have to praise his political rivals.

“You know, in a way, I kind of wish the call hadn’t been made, because I really feel like he was so, so kind… I’m sorry for what happened and everything, but I need to put it out there,” he said, adding, “Same with Kamala today. She couldn’t have been kinder.”
