United States President Donald Trump told the American Fox News that he would like to talk to Pope Leo XIV, the first American pontiff, in an interview broadcast on Wednesday (14).
During the interview, Sean Hannity, anchor of the channel, commented that Leo XIV and the Republican seem to disagree with immigration issues, and questioned Trump about it: “We have our first American pope. He seems to disagree with you about immigration. Leaving it aside, would you like to talk to him about it?”
The US president promptly answered “of course” and added that “he (Papa) was really a surprising choice.”
An account named by Robert Prevost in X, attributed to Leo XIV while still Cardinal, has some posts disapproving of the policies of the Republican leaders.
Among the publications, there is one questioning Trump’s immigration policies and another republishing an article entitled “Jd Vance is wrong: Jesus does not ask us to classify our love for others.”
Born in the United States, Prevost is known as the “pastor of two homeland” due to missionary performance in Peru during the 1980s.
This experience gave him fluency in Spanish and a profound understanding of the Church in Latin America.
