US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that a possible agreement to dismember Tiktok’s assets in the United States is still “on the table,” days after being put on hold.
“We have an agreement with some very good people, some very rich companies that would do a great job with it, but we will have to wait to see what will happen to China,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Hall. “It’s on the table, very clearly.”
Suspension after disapproval of China
An agreement to separate US assets from Tiktok was suspended after China indicated that it would not approve the deal after the announcement of reciprocal tariffs by US President Donald Trump, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
The agreement, which was completed last week, according to one of the sources, would have dismembered US Tiktok’s operations in a new US -based and US investor -based company. Chinese Bytedance, current owner, would stop a minority position of less than 20%.
The agreement was approved by existing investors, new investors, bytedance and the US government, the source said.
Faced with China’s rejection, President Donald Trump extended 75 days the deadline for the Chinese technology company to sell Tiktok’s American assets to a non -Chinese buyer, or face a ban that should have entered into force in January, according to a 2024 law during the Joe Biden government.
