In a telephone call this Tuesday (12), the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, called the Argentine head of state, Javier Milei, his “favorite president”. The information was released by Casa Rosada spokesperson, Manuel Adorni.
This was the first communication between the two since Trump’s election a week ago, and it comes one day before Milei leaves for the United States to meet the Republican leader.
In addition to meeting with Trump, the Argentine president is expected to meet with Elon Musk, owner of the social network X and executive director of Tesla, among other companies, and is expected to participate in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). which will take place in Mar-a-Lago, the resort of the president-elect of the United States.
Milei and Trump’s meeting takes place amidst the Argentine government’s satisfaction with the Republican’s election, both due to ideological coincidences and the expectation that support from the new president could result in the facilitation of resources from the International Monetary Fund for the South American country.
Milei and Trump had already expressed mutual admiration. In February, they met at an edition of CPAC held in Washington DC. At the time, Trump told Milei, who was just over two months into his presidency, that he was doing a “great job”.
After Trump’s election last week, Milei posted messages on her social media saying that Argentina was willing to help the Republican “make the United States great again,” and hoped that the United States would do the same for Argentina.
