United States President Donald Trump said on Thursday that there will be no movement in peace negotiations in Ukraine until he and Russian President Vladimir Putin meet.
“Nothing will happen until Putin and I meet,” Trump told reporters aboard the Air Force One just before landing in Dubai, at the third stop of his trip to the Middle East.
Putin’s absence in programmed negotiations about Ukraine in Türkiye on Thursday shook the prospects for conversations.
Round of negotiations in Türkiye
The president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is in Türkiye, where a round of negotiations with Russian diplomats should take place.
A source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye told the CNN That “there is no scheduled meeting yet” between Russia and Ukraine, responding to statements made by Moscow, on Thursday (15) that a meeting was scheduled for this morning and then postponed this afternoon.
Russian government spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin would not participate in direct negotiations, initially proposed by him in response to the ultimatum of ceasefire or sanctions given to Moscow by Ukraine European allies on Saturday (10).
