Trump signs executive order to ease fuel, food and housing prices for US households

President Donald Trump, who on the campaign trail pledged to end the “inflation nightmare,” on Monday sent a message of his priority to tackling the high cost of living in the United States by signing an executive order requiring “all executive departments and agencies to provide urgent price relief” to Americans. The Jan. 20 order attributes rising inflation during the pandemic, which has left many households under financial strain, to a number of factors, including high federal spending under the Biden administration and the cost of new regulations. “It is critical that we restore the purchasing power of the American family and improve our quality of life,” the executive order states. To achieve this, Trump is asking executive branch departments and agencies, such as the Departments of Commerce, Health and Human Services, Labor and Energy, to take steps to lower prices on housing, health care, food and fuel.
