Trump signs orders against two former employees who criticized him

President Donald Trump signed directives on Wednesday to two former government employees who criticized him during his first term, calling one of them traitor and saying that they should be investigated.

One of Trump’s guidelines quoted Christopher Krebs, his former cyber security chief, and said any security authorization he has will be revoked.

A second presidential memorandum target Miles Taylor, who was a high employee of the internal security department during Trump’s first term and wrote anonymously a book in 2019 criticizing the then president.

The Order removed from Taylor any security authorization he may have and ordered the Justice Department to investigate him.

“I think it’s a very important case, and I think it’s guilty of betrayal, if you want to know the truth, but let’s find out,” Trump said as he signed the order on Taylor.

In response, Taylor said by text message, “I said this would happen. Dissent is not illegal. It is certainly not betrayal. The United States are going to a dark path.”

Krebs had questioned Trump’s allegations of electoral fraud in the 2020 presidential election, in which he lost to Democrat Joe Biden.

The order signed on Wednesday requires a revision of Krebs activities as a government official, including his leadership at the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), a White House newsletter said.

“Let’s find out about this guy too because he’s a smart guy,” Trump said, calling Krebs “a misfortune.”

Krebs did not immediately respond to a comment request.

Trump fired Krebs in a tweet of November 17, 2020, five days after CISA published a statement saying that the 2020 election was “the safest in American history.” Trump falsely claimed that Biden’s victory was the result of fraud.

After leaving the government, Krebs was co-founder of Krebs Stamos Group, a cyber security consultancy, along with former Facebook security director Alex Stamos.

Cyber security company Sentinelone acquired the consultancy in November 2023, and Krebs became Sentinelone’s director of intelligence and public policies.

Trump’s order states that Sentinel One’s security authorizations are also revoked while a review is awaited. A sentinelone spokesman chose not to comment.
