Trump supports release of search warrant for his Mar-a-Lago residence

Former US President Donald Trump released a statement Thursday night in support of the release of the search warrant for his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. On Monday, the FBI carried out a document search at the site, without providing details.

“Not only will I not oppose the release of documents relating to the unwarranted, unnecessary and unwarranted invasion of my home in Mar-a-Lago, I am also taking this a step further by encouraging the immediate release of these documents,” Trump wrote.

The statement came after US Attorney General Merrick Garland said the US Department of Justice had filed a request with the court to have the search warrant open.

In a statement on Thursday, Garland also confirmed that she “personally approved the decision to obtain a search warrant in this matter.”

“The Department filed the motion to make the warrant and receipt public in light of the former President’s public confirmation of the search, the surrounding circumstances, and the substantial public interest in this matter,” the prosecutor said.

Trump claims the documents were “crafted by radical left Democrats and potential future political opponents, who have a strong and powerful interest in attacking me, as they have for the past 6 years.”

In further criticism, the former president called the FBI’s action “highly unethical” and said it was the victim of an “unprecedented political frame-up by law enforcement.”
