President Donald Trump made new threats of sanctions to Russia on Friday, including the banking sector, in response to Moscow’s continuous bombing to Ukraine-a significant warning as he seeks to end the conflict.
The new threat was remarkable after weeks of conciliatory statements regarding Russia and its President Vladimir Putin, including saying that he was open to suspending sanctions.
Now Trump says he could impose more harsher new sanctions on Russia in his attempt to end the war.
“Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely” beating “in Ukraine on the battlefield now, I am considering strongly large-scale bank sanctions, sanctions and tariffs to Russia until a ceasefire and final peace agreement are achieved,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.
“To Russia and Ukraine: they feel at the table right now, before it’s too late. Thank you !!! ”, continued the US President.
The statements take place a week after an argument in the White House Oval Hall between Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and US Vice President JD Vance, which resulted in the Order to Zelensky to leave the White House. Since then, the US has interrupted intelligence sharing and military aid to Ukraine.
On the battlefield, Russian forces launched a deadly air strike to Ukraine at night, aiming at energy facilities across the country, Ukrainian officials said on Friday.
Missile and drone attacks killed at least two people and injured seven others in the southern region of Kherson, officials said. Two people were injured in the central region of Poltava.
Damage to residential buildings and energy facilities have been reported in various regions, including Kharkiv in the east, south of southern and tenderness in western Ukraine.
The attacks damaged natural gas production facilities, said Ukraine Naphtogaz’s state oil and gas company in a statement.
Naphtogaz said Friday’s attacks were the 17th combined missile and drone attack on their facilities-the latest flood of almost daily air strikes to weaken Ukrainian defenses and degrade the country’s energy infrastructure during the strict winter months.
