Former US President Donald Trump remains the favorite among Republicans to run against Joe Biden next year, but his support has dipped slightly after this week’s debate, in which he did not participate.
According to a Washington Post/IPSOS poll, 66% of respondents would consider voting for Trump before the debate. Afterwards, that percentage dropped to 61%.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis saw his support grow: 62% of respondents considered voting for him before the debate, a percentage that rose to 67%.
But the two biggest highlights went to Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy. The businessman and newcomer to politics saw the percentage of respondents considering voting for him rise from 40 to 46% – while the former governor of South Carolina saw the percentage rise even further: 17%, from 29 to 46%.
Candidates will compete for the party’s nomination in next year’s primary, which begins in January.
