Trump travels to Milwaukee for Republican Convention after attack

Former US President Donald Trump said on the Truth Social platform that he will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Sunday (14) at around 3:30 pm local time, as scheduled. Trump initially considered postponing his trip after the assassination attempt on Saturday (13).

There, the former president will attend the Republican Party convention, an event that will mark the official confirmation of Donald Trump as a candidate for president of the United States.

“Based on yesterday’s horrific events, I was going to postpone my trip to Wisconsin and the Republican National Convention by two days, but I have just decided that I cannot allow a “shooter,” or potential assassin, to force a change in the schedule, or anything else,” the Republican wrote.

Trump added: “Therefore, I will be leaving for Milwaukee as scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Today. Thank you! DJT.”

Trump’s post comes after Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Brian Schimming said there are no major changes being made to the Republican National Convention schedule.

The Republican Party will hold its convention this week, an event that will mark the official confirmation of Donald Trump as the candidate for president of the United States. One of the most anticipated moments will be the announcement of the name of the vice-presidential candidate on the former president’s ticket.

The choice of Trump’s running mate has gained special prominence following the events that followed the 2020 election. Mike Pence, who served as vice president during Trump’s term, is out of the race due to disagreements with the former president in the post-election period.

The Republican convention follows Trump’s assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally. The GOP gathering also comes at a time of turmoil for the Democratic Party, with some members pushing President Joe Biden to drop out of the race.
