US President Donald Trump’s government will reduce the impact of its duties on the automotive industry on Tuesday, reducing some duties imposed on foreign components on cars manufactured in the domestic market and preventing duties on duties being built abroad. “President Trump is building an important partnership with both domestic automakers and with our great US employees,” Commerce Minister Howard Lutnik said in a White House statement. “This agreement is an important victory for the president’s commercial policy, as it rewards companies that build domestically, while providing a way out to manufacturers who have expressed their commitment to invest in America and expand their domestic production,” he said.
