Trump’s lead over Biden grows to 6 points, WSJ poll finds

Donald Trump’s lead over US President Joe Biden has grown to six percentage points among registered voters in the United States, according to a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) poll. The Republican now has 48% of the vote, compared to 42% for the Democrat.

This is the largest difference in Trump’s favor since November 2021, according to previous WSJ surveys. In February of this year, the newspaper indicated that the Republican’s lead was 47% to 45%.

According to the latest survey, 80% of registered voters surveyed say President Joe Biden is too old to run for office. The figure is up 7 percentage points from February of this year.

Additionally, 76% of Democrats surveyed in the poll say Biden is too old to run. About two-thirds would replace him with another member of their party in the presidential race.

The Wall Street Journal also revealed discontent with both candidates: 47% of voters would replace both Trump and Biden on the ballot if they could, and 53% say they are not enthusiastic about anyone running for president.

Still, Donald Trump held a similar 6-point lead over Biden in the new poll (42% to 36%) in a hypothetical matchup that included Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other independent and third-party candidates.

Methodology

The Wall Street Journal poll surveyed 1,500 registered voters from June 29 to July 2.

The margin of error is plus or minus 2.5 percentage points for the full sample.
