His tax returns were released to Congress following a Supreme Court ruling Donald Trump.
Trump, who recently announced that intends to be a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, he had refused to release those tax returns when he was in the White House – something every other president had done since the 1970s – and had gone to court to block a congressional request for those documents for the years 2015 – 2020.
After much back and forth, a federal appeals court in late October allowed the IRS to turn over those documents to a House committee. The real estate tycoon had then filed an urgent appeal to the US Supreme Court to block this move, APE-MPE reports, citing AFP.
The Supreme Court had on November 1 suspended the transmission of the documents pending the evidence to rule on the merits. After receiving the arguments of both sides, finally rejected Donald Trump’s request on November 22. “The finance ministry complied last week with the Court’s decision,” a ministry spokesman told AFP.
Committee members were not immediately available to comment on this information.
The House of Representatives has been controlled by Democrats until January, as the Democratic Party lost the Republican majority in the Nov. 8 midterm elections.
