In the Bolognese countryside, right in the heart of the Italian Motor Valley, the supercars that the whole world envies us are made. And, still here, the pilots are also trained and then “fine-tuned”. Professional drivers, especially during endurance races, are subjected to extreme physical strain and stresses different from those of other sportsmen. Thus, a few minutes from its factory-citadel of Sant’Agata Bolognese, Lamborghini has opened a multipurpose facility, the Lamborghini Squadra Corse Drivers’ Lab, where to take care of those who really are drivers, but also of those who feel that way.

Structure includes a futuristic gym, created in collaboration with TecnoBody, for the psychophysical preparation: «We work on endurance and aerobic part, reflexes and concentration», explains the physiotherapist of Squadra Corse, Jose Poletti. «All these stimuli are very important so that our riders are fully prepared to face a race weekend».

From theory to practice: led by Poletti and Alessandro De Paulis of TecnoBody we tried our hand at a training session together with the official drivers Marco Mapelli and Mirko Bortolotti. “We did an analysis of walking and running with the Walker View, a super-technological treadmill that gives us load and rotation information, and that helps us not only to improve performance, but also to prevent injuries,” sums up Poletti. “Then we did five tests to evaluate strength, endurance, balance, coordination and speed, with a tool called the D-Wall and which is connected to a digital mirror. So we create a specific work protocol for each one ». As important as the training is the recovery phase, explains the physiotherapist: «We have a latest generation O2H cryogenic chamber, where you go to -140 ° for three minutes, which helps to accelerate recovery. We then move on to a session of care therapy, where we work on the muscular, tendon and ligament part, and ends with a manipulative treatment to correct the posture ».

Next to the gym there is a workshop for racing cars, which looks like the operating room of a VIP clinic, and a hangar-showroom. Between cars that have made the history of racing and very rare examples (whose owners must remain anonymous), an absolute novelty is presented: the Huracán STO – Homologated Super Trofeo, a road car which, however, borrows solutions from the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO developed for the one-make championship by Lamborghini Squadra Corse. With its naturally aspirated 640 hp (470 kW) V10 engine generating 565 Nm at 6,500 rpm, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.0 seconds, from 0 to 200 km / h in 9.0 seconds and a top speed of 310 km / h. And then superior aerodynamic efficiency, the use of ultralight materials and excellent braking performance make it a dream, for those who really are and for those who feel like one.
