Tsavousoglou: Mitsotakis begged Congress not to give us F-16

Ankara continues its high-pitched rhetoric, with the Turkish Foreign Minister stating today that Kyriakos Mitsotakis humiliated himself in his speech to the American Congress.

In particular, as reported by ANT1, in an interview he gave to a Turkish channel, Mevlut Cavusoglu claimed that Kyriakos Mitsotakis succeeded against Turkey and begged Congress not to give the F16s to Ankara, which he claimed is against the spirit of the Alliance.

However, as the Turkish Foreign Minister said, such efforts as that of the Greek Prime Minister do not constitute a problem for Turkey. He added that there is a positive climate in Congress now for Turkey to get the F16s.

Asked about the criticisms of the opposition against Tayyip Erdogan because he participated in a dinner in the presence of N. Anastasiades, whom Turkey does not recognize, Mr. Cavusoglu replied that “meeting and discussing at informal dinners does not mean that we recognize them, it’s human.”

Finally, regarding Finland and Sweden, the Turkish Foreign Minister said that if they do not implement the Memorandum they signed in Madrid then they will not be allowed to join NATO.
