Tsavousoglu on Afghanistan: Taliban’s first signs of governance positive

Turkey considers the first messages sent by them to be positive Taliban after the occupation of Kabul, announcing that Ankara is in talks with the Islamist movement.

«We welcome the messages that have been sent so far by the Taliban“They are either addressed to foreigners or to diplomatic missions, but also to their own people,” said the Turkish Foreign Minister. Mevlüt Tsavousoglou during a press conference in Jordan broadcast by Turkish television networks.

«We hope that this will be reflected in their actions. “We are continuing the dialogue with all sides in Afghanistan, including the Taliban,” he was quoted as saying by the Athens News Agency.

THE Turkey has deployed several hundred troops in Afghanistan and is involved in the Kabul airport security operation with the United States.

Last month, Ankara proposed to Washington that it take over the airport after the withdrawal of US troops, but that plan was thwarted by the return of the Taliban, who issued a public warning to Turkey about the stay of its troops.

“Now the Afghans are going to talk to each other. Who will take part in the transition, what kind of interim government will they have. “We will watch and discuss all this,” said Mevlut Tsavousoglu.

The Turkish Foreign Minister said that the operation to remove Turkish and foreign nationals who want to leave Afghanistan will be repeated when the situation at Kabul airport has stabilized.

«We do not only take care of the removal of our own citizens, but also citizens of other countries. “We have had contacts with many foreign governments on the issue,” he said.
