Transgressive and very sensual, the Tuca Tuca it is the dance that marked an epochal turning point on Italian TV. The November 13, 1971 during the sixth episode of Canzonissima, a famous singing competition linked to the New Year’s Lottery, presented by Corrado e Raffaella Carrà. A historical episode, which saw the Carrà, wearing a mini dress covered with sequins, proposed in couple with the dancer Enzo Paolo Turchi, what was to become the most famous erotic dance on television.

The famous choreographer had conceived this sexy and playful dance, during which one mischievously touches knees, hips, shoulders, forehead while uttering winking phrases, was the famous choreographer Don Lurio, linking it to a text written by Gianni Boncompagni and to the music of Franco Pisano. After the broadcast on the 13th, however, the dance was censored by the Rai executives, as it was considered “indecent” and provocative: unsuitable for Saturday nights.

The actual “customs clearance”, however, took place thanks to Alberto Sordi who, at the invitation of Raffaella herself who met him at his home a few days before receiving the censorship, agreed to re-propose the performance together with Carrà herself, during her presence as a guest of the broadcast.

It was an immediate success that led to the birth of a real catchphrase, even recently taken up by the pop star Madonna, who revived it during his 2012 tour. One of the many catchphrases, to be honest, associated with the great and multifaceted Raffaella Carrà, during his long career. An artist who has contributed not only to making the history of television in Italy, but – with her winking songs, sexy dresses, navel in evidence, and the intriguing Tuca Tuca, also sexual costumes.
