Tunisia: A prisoner who was imprisoned because he refused to see the president on television

A prisoner, sentenced to six months in prison after refusing to watch Tunisian President Mrs Sauged on television, was rid of the Court of Appeal today, his lawyer said. The case had surprised Tunisia and strong reactions to social media websites. According to the local branch of the Tunisian Human Rights Union, the prisoner said he refuses to see “presidential activities” in the newsletter. One of his detainees denounced him, resulting in a preliminary investigation against him and eventually imposed a six -month prison sentence. The Gafsa Court of Appeal today ruled that there was insufficient evidence to accuse him of an offense and rejected the case.
