His decision to resign from his position as interior minister Tunisia Tawfiq Sarfeddin announced on Friday, explaining that he intends to devote himself to his children after the death of his wife last year.
Sharfeddin, 54, thanked President Sayed for his “understanding” in relieving him of his duties at the interior ministry.
Tawfiq Sarfeddin’s wife, with whom he had three children, was seriously injured in the explosion that caused a gas leak in their home on May 16, 2022. She succumbed to her injuries a few weeks later.
“It’s time to devote myself to the responsibilities he left me”Sarfedin told reporters.
A close associate of the Tunisian president, Taufid Sarfeddine has been interior minister since October 2021 and played a leading role in establishing a controversial system of government that gave superpowers to Qais Sayed.
President Sayed has appointed Tunis governor Kamel Feki as the new interior minister.
