Breakthrough in the investigation into the machete ambush in Turin, which resulted in the amputation of the leg of a twenty-three-year-old student: the agents of the Flying Squad arrested – on charges of attempted murder – a young man, Pietro Costanza di Costigliole, 23 years old, originally from a noble family Piedmontese (it is said that he is the son of a count), who was born in Milan but has always lived in Turin. The police are still looking for his accomplice, the one who accompanied him on his motorbike.
The alleged perpetrator of the ambush was staying in the hotel, and denies his involvement: despite not having answered the questions of the investigators and the prosecutor Mario Bendoni, before being taken to prison he explained that he did not have a scooter or a machete and that he did not know the victim of the attack. This was also confirmed by his lawyers, defenders Vittorio Nizza and Paola Pinciaroli, appointed by his parents: «Our client only explained that he didn't know what they were talking about, that he had nothing to do with it». The 23-year-old, who studied marketing and lived in Barcelona until a year ago, would be the recipient of an international arrest warrant for crimes committed in Spain (but the police are still checking this out).
The machete attack took place on Monday in via Panizza, in the north Mirafiori area, on the outskirts of the city, in the late afternoon: the victim left a friend's house with his twenty-year-old girlfriend and got on a scooter. Soon after the student was reached by a T-Max with two people on board. One of the two hit him several times with the machete (or with a billhook). A road rescuer and two off-duty carabinieri intervened to help him: one of them tried to stop the bleeding in his leg with a belt. The doctors, however, were then forced to amputate the limb under the student's knee, which remains hospitalized with reserved prognosis, intubated and mechanically ventilated in the intensive care unit of the Cto hospital.
