Turin, teacher suffering from cancer and fired from school: “I have had no salary or pension for 5 months”

He has not received his salary or pension for 5 months. Anna Vitiello, 55 years old, is admitted to a hospice, because the tumor that affected her is advanced. She is originally from Torre del Greco and has been living in Piedmont for about ten years with her three daughters: she had moved to work as a teacher of Physical Education, and has taught in Oulx, Osasco and Moncalieri, and then became permanent three years ago, after passing the probationary year at the Primo Levi institute.

But now, as reported by the Courierafter being fired due to incapacity, Anna Vitiello finds herself without economic resources to rely on: he did not receive the thirteenth salary or the severance pay. He explained this in a letter to the Cub Scuola Università Ricerca di Torino union: «The Mef says that the school does not prepare a document, the school says that the Mef does not explain how this document is prepared, the result is that I have been without a salary and without a pension since October because there are also delays with INPS.”

In 2007 she was diagnosed with her first breast cancer: after treatment, the cancer had regressed. But, years later, he returned. Taken into care at the Molinette Day Hospital, she no longer felt like continuing to carry out her work in a wheelchair. «In December 2022, the illness no longer allowed me to do all the hours of service, therefore I started the disease. Subsequently I asked for the collegial visit to be able to request the disability pension. On 5 October 2023 I have the collegial visit and they declare me unfit for work. In the meantime, on 31 August 2023 the contract at Bosso Monti expires and I return to Primo Levi, the school I belong to, which starts the dismissal 10 days after receiving the report from the medical commission. It was October 18, 2023.”

In his opinion, however, incapacity is not just cause for dismissal. Anna Vitiello was then fired during a period in which she was still off sick. «I don't know how to go on anymore. What little money I had is gone and I'm getting into debt. The severance pay will arrive in October, but everything is silent regarding the pension.”

In Nichelino, he still has his apartment, but rent and bills remain to be paid. «I would not want to leave this legacy of problems to my daughtersI don't think I have much time available.”
