The Turkish Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that 98,715 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed in the previous 24 hours after 421,435 tests, with the total number of registered infections reaching 12,150,567.
The deaths of 221 patients due to complications of COVID-19 have increased the death toll to 88,533 deaths since March 11, 2020, when the new coronavirus pandemic broke out in Turkey.
Among those infected were President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Emine’s 66-year-old wife, the 67-year-old Turkish head of state said, assuring that they were both “fortunately” having “mild” symptoms. The Turkish president received a third, booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in June.
As of January 14, 2021, some 52.5 million people – out of a total population of 85 million – have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while a total of 142.83 million doses have been administered, including souvenirs.
