Turkey: At least 9 people were trapped in a gold mine after a landslide

At least nine people are trapped in a gold mine at Turkish northwestern province of Erzincan, the mayor of the city of the same name said today.

The exact number of people trapped underground is not known, however, Erzincan Mayor Bekir Aksun added to private Turkish television network NTV.

“No news on nine miners. In progress rescue operation with a team of 400 peopleTurkish Interior Minister Ali Gerlikaya said, according to Turkish media.

THE landslide occurred at around 14:00 local time (13:00 Greek time) in Ilic, inside Erzincan province, and rescue teams from neighboring towns were sent to the scene, state disaster management agency Afad said.

“We will mobilize all our resources to clarify the causes of this incident,” said the company responsible for the Anagold gold mine.

As APE-MPE reports, landslides or mine collapses often occur in areas of Turkey. In an explosion that occurred in 2022, 42 miners were killed in Amasra, in the north of the country.
