Turkey claims that Greek S-300s ‘locked’ Turkish F-16s

The provocative tactic of the last few days is followed by Turkey, which talks about harassment of Turkish fighters from Greece.

According to SKAI’s correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis, Turkish Defense Ministry sources claimed that on August 23, Turkish aircraft were harassed by Greece’s Russian-made S-300 air defense system located in Crete.

According to the same sources, the S-300 system’s target tracking and missile guidance radar “locked” with its radar the F-16, which was on a reconnaissance mission at 10,000 feet west of Rhodes.

The same sources called the “harassment” “hostile action.” “Despite the hostile action, the planes completed their planned mission and returned safely to their bases,” Hurriyet reports citing sources from the Turkish Defense Ministry.

It is recalled that on Tuesday, August 23, two pairs of Turkish F-16 entered the Athens FIR, without filing a flight plan and violated the national airspace.

The first pair of Turkish F-16s carried out an overflight at 10:57 over the island of Divounia -northwest of Kasos- at 27,000 feet, while at 11:00 a second pair of Turkish F-16 aircraft carried out an overflight over the island of Kamilonisi -located also northwest of Kasos- at 27,000 feet.

New aircraft overflights over Levitha and Kandeliussa

As it became known from GEETHA, at 2 am on Saturday, a Turkish UAV entered the Athens FIR without filing a flight plan, violated the national airspace, and then flew over Levitha, northeast of Amorgos, in 19,000 feet.

At 9:24 am, a second Turkish UAV entered the Athens FIR without filing a flight plan, violated national airspace, and then flew over Kandeliosa Nisyrou at 29,000 feet.

At 11:01 in the morning, a Turkish UAV entered the Athens FIR without filing a flight plan, violated national airspace, and then flew again, over Kandeliosa Nisyrou, at 19,000 feet.

Turkish UAVs were identified and intercepted according to international rules as a matter of routine.
