Review in “Greek” F-35 are practiced by the Turks stating that “they are robots” and that “they have nothing to do with F-16». However, the analysts from our neighboring country admit that “the further armament of Greece changes the balance in the Aegean”.
As reported by SKAI’s correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis, on the show “Today” on Tuesday (5/7), the concern of the Turkish side about the acquisition of fighter jets from the USA is strong. “This is also reflected in a Haber Turk broadcast, where experts say that the F-35s will make a big difference in the Aegean,” he said.
Gürcel Tokmakoglou, former intelligence director of the Turkish Air Force, comparing the F-35s with the Turkish F-16s, clarifies that they have nothing to do with each other, stressing that these are aircraft that will also be supported by the US through the systems they have.
“The F-35 is another thing. And with an F-35 aircraft in front of you comes the USA. A single F-35 uses the US network system. In the event that one of our F-16s engages in a dogfight with a Greek F-35, they will also support it with their own forces. If you put it in war conditions, that means a lot,” he underlined.
In fact, he emphasized that the F-35 functions as a semi-autonomous robot: “The F-35 is like a robot, semi-autonomous, the decisions are made by the aircraft itself through software. The F-16 is not like that, the pilot uses it, it’s just that the new aircraft will be able to take advantage of the F-35’s systems.”
At the same time, the Turkish press, in particular Hurriyet, stands in the market for systems of the Greek side which, as it characteristically mentions on its front page, “blind the Turkish drones”. In the midst of all this, Erdogan’s representative, İbrahim Kalin, is holding meetings with Senators about the F-16s, however, as Manolis Kostidis reports, such an agreement between Turkey and the US still requires time.
