Turkey: Freezes the assets of 770 people

Turkey “froze” the assets of a total of 770 people and an American organization for terrorist financing, according to a decision published in its official newspaper on Friday.

The assets of the Niagara Foundation “froze” due to ties with the clergyman in the US, Fethullah Gulen, who was accused by Turkey of attempting a coup in 2016.

According to the government newspaper, the assets of more than 400 people were “frozen”.

This measure was taken on the basis of reasonable grounds that they had committed actions that fall into the categories of “terrorist financing crime” or “actions that prohibit the provision or collection of funds”.

The assets of more than 200 people accused of links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Islamic State were also seized, according to the ruling.
