The ambassadors of Germany and France to Ankara have been summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry for the Turkish government to protest Kurdish organizations in the two countries, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt said in a statement.
Speaking to the Turkish state news agency Anadolu, the Turkish Foreign Minister noted that the two ambassadors expressed their country’s dissatisfaction with events organized in Germany and France by members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), an organization that is based in Europe and Turkey. The union is officially described as “terrorist”.
The issue of European countries’ relations with the PKK and its allies – sister parties and armed organizations in Syria – has been raised by Turkey at the center of its opposition to Sweden and Finland joining NATO.
Since 1984, the PKK has been waging a guerrilla war in Turkey’s southeastern provinces, which are largely inhabited by ethnic Kurds.
